About Anthar Kharana
Born in 1977 in Ocaña, a town nestled in the high Andes of northern Colombia, Anthar Kharana Navarro hails from the land of the Hacaritama people, an area historically inhabited by ancient warriors. From a young age, Anthar was immersed in the rich musical heritage of his family and was guided by wise elders, instilling in him a deep reverence for ancestral traditions.
As a guardian of the sacred fire and traditional medicines of the Americas, Anthar has been entrusted with the Chanupa (peace pipe) and Inipi (sweat lodge) ceremonies, following the lineage of Leonard Crow Dog. He is also a Sundancer and a member of the Pachamama Native American Church, embodying the alliance of the Eagle and Condor—a unification of North and South American indigenous traditions.
Musical Journey and Style
Anthar is a self-taught musician, beginning his musical journey at the age of eight. Over the years, he has become a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and sound healer, blending ancient and contemporary sounds to create immersive musical landscapes. His work often incorporates traditional instruments such as drums, flutes, and stringed instruments, interwoven with vocal harmonies that resonate with the spirit of his ancestors.
His discography includes albums like “Kurandero” (2018) and “Nahual” (2017), which showcase his ability to fuse traditional melodies with modern arrangements, offering listeners a journey through the spiritual and the earthly realms.
