Sustainability

At Soul Revolution, we embrace our evolution from an intimate gathering into a fully-fledged festival. 2025 marks the year we bring sustainability into sharp focus. This is a pivotal moment for us as we lay the groundwork for a festival that not only minimises its impact but actively contributes to the regeneration of the land, ecosystems, and communities that sustain us.

This year, our theme is Freedom. True freedom comes from letting go of unnecessary burdens, lightening the load, and embracing our responsibility to care for the land, leaving us free of worry and creating a legacy.

Our guiding principle is simple: we are nature. As such, caring for the land is as essential as nurturing our spiritual selves. To honour this connection, we aim to tread lightly and leave Weston Park better than we found it. Our ultimate goal is to transition from sustainability to regeneration, a festival that gives back more than it takes.

From 2025, we’ll measure our progress each year, refine our strategies, and scale up our efforts to ensure that by 2030, Soul Revolution is not just a celebration of life but a force for healing the planet.

We have three main areas of focus for 2025:

  1. Travel emissions reduction
  2. Energy renewables increase
  3. Single plastic use reduction

Our first steps in 2025 are as follows:

Expertise

We’ve welcomed Rebecca Heaps, founder of Tentshare, as our sustainability officer. Rebecca is committed to ensuring we are listening to nature’s needs and work towards creating a festival that gives more back to the land than we take. Rebecca believes that looking after our land isn’t a responsibility, but a forgotten joy that connects us to the land and each other. Below, we outline what Soul Revolution is doing in 2025 to embrace this vision and how you, our valued attendees, can join in the celebration of giving back.

Travel and Transport

Travel to and from Weston Park represents a significant portion of our festival’s carbon emissions, we want to reduce these costs to the planet. We understand the need for personal flexibility and so we’re introducing initiatives to support you to make your journey as sustainable as possible:

We’ve thought about how we can help you pack less and still travel with ease. Reduced load means you can make better travel choices. We are introducing these five initiatives in 2025 to help lighten your load.

1. No need to pack your camping gear:
  • Tentshare: Pre-book affordable tents and camping gear to collect on arrival.
  • Posh Bells: Reserve pre-pitched luxury accommodations for a hassle-free stay.

Now you’ve lightened your load you can choose to travel by public transport more easily or you can fill your car with people rather than stuff. To help you with both these choices:

2. Firstly, join this clever journey planner here:

https://yousmartthing.com/

We’ve partnered with a smart journey planner to make your trip easier. This clever tool helps you plan your journey from your front door to the Soul Revolution entrance gate. By using the app, we can see when and where you’ll arrive, allowing us to coordinate shuttle buses to and from public transport hubs for a smooth and hassle-free experience.

3. Join the car pool WhatsApp group here:

Travel light and fill your car with people rather than stuff.

4. Cycling-Friendly Access:

We’re creating a secure bike park for those wishing to arrive on two wheels.

5. Soul Revolution provides our very own cafe at the festival.

We provide you with affordable, healthy and delicious food and snacks. In exchange we ask you to try not to pack plastic wrapped food and snacks to the festival.

Why Travelling Light Matters

  • Supports Public Transport Use: Travelling light makes it easier to use planet friendly options like trains, buses, and shuttles, reducing your carbon footprint.
  • Maximises Carpooling: Packing less frees up car space, allowing more people to share the journey and cut down on the number of vehicles on the road.
  • Reduces Waste: Thoughtful, lighter packing minimises the risk of unnecessary items being discarded or left behind at the festival.

Food and Drink

Food choices can have a profound effect on the environment. We’re committed to providing sustainable options for all:

  • Plant-Based Focus: As a proudly conscious festival, our offerings prioritise low-impact, plant-based foods. Organic, locally sourced meat will be available as an optional extra rather than a staple.
  • Soul Revolution provides our very own cafe at the festival. We provide you with affordable, healthy and delicious food and snacks.
  • Bring Your Own Reusables: To reduce waste, attendees are asked to bring their own cups, plates, and cutlery. Vendors won’t provide disposable options in 2025. Items will be available to rent on-site if needed.
  • Vendor Accountability: Every vendor must submit a sustainability policy, ensuring ethical sourcing and eco-conscious practices.

A Substance-Free Festival

  • No Alcohol Policy: It’s difficult to measure the impact this has, but common sense would suggest that sober festival goers may well be more conscious when disposing of their waste, making ethically sound decisions and generally being more attuned to the land and its needs.
  • Soft Drinks: We’ve banned unethical brands, such as Coca-Cola and Nestlé, in favour of sustainable alternatives.

Soul Revolution Campsite Initiative

The campsite will be a little different this year as we partner with Tentshare to create a supportive campsite community. Festivals often mean staying in individual tents, which can sometimes feel isolating. This year, we’re working to create a more connected and supportive campsite experience where everyone feels part of a shared community.

Here’s what Tentshare is offering:

  • Affordable Accommodation: Pre-book tents and pick them up on arrival.
  • Camping Gear Rentals: Limited stock of tents, blankets, sleeping bags, chairs, and more will be available to rent on-site.
  • Repair Hub: A space for repairing tents and camping gear.
  • Repurpose Shop: Items for sale that are fully circular, made from repurposed camping materials.
  • Costume Swap Shop: Donate your fabulous costumes and swap for other amazing outfits.
  • Peace Area: A calming space for community support, wisdom sharing, and some loving care if you’re feeling overwhelmed or under the weather (there is separate medical tent onsite for serious illness and injury).

Join us in building a welcoming and sustainable campsite community!

Energy Use

Energy is vital for a vibrant festival experience, and we’re working hard to minimise its environmental impact:

  • Diverse Energy Sources: This year, we’re trialling solar power, sustainable biofuels, and electric batteries, alongside the more traditional energy methods. Each system’s performance will be monitored to guide future improvements.
  • Energy Tracking: We’ll analyse energy usage to avoid over-specification and waste.
  • Fossil Fuel-Free Festival Goal: By 2030, we aim to power the entire festival sustainably.

Plus, plus – of course we are doing what we can in all areas of the festival organisation.

Waste Management

There is no such thing as ‘away’ when we throw our waste away. We believe that many of the strategies being introduced will reduce and often prevent waste occurring in the first place. However, we need to have a system so that we can track how much waste we accumulate over the weekend, that we can recycle and reuse as much as possible and then take steps to improve each year.

How can you help in reducing waste (but increase the joy)?

We encourage all attendees to be mindful of what they bring to Weston Park. As a health embracing, planet conscious bunch, we know you’re already making thoughtful choices to help care for the land at Weston Park. Goal number 3 is to reduce and eliminate single-use items as soon as possible. We need your help to achieve this. Please review the guidelines below and follow them as closely as you can.

  • Dressing up –  Foxy Costumes Swap Shop:  Soul Revolution positively encourages dressing up, getting gorgeous and flamoyant peacocking to the max, but not to the detriment of the land. We know you will be using your creativity and not your wallet to create wonderful outfits in 2025. To help increase creativity and reduce waste, we’ve created a costume swap shop for 2025. Bring your old gorgeous glamorous gear to swap and create a new foxy ensemble onsite!
  • Glitter – Let’s embrace a glitter free festival! Come on, we don’t need glitter to show the world we radiate inner sparkle do we?!
  • Wipes – we know wet wipes are the nasty underbelly of festival hygiene, there is nothing good about the waste and damage they cause to our environment. Showers will be available. Try bringing some flannels and eco soap, use those with some water to freshen up. Pop them in a bag and take them home to be washed and reused at the end of your stay.
  • Disposable vapes /smoking – disposable vapes will be illegal in 2025. We agree with the legislation on this, please don’t bring them here. Smokers – switch to biodegradable filter options.
  • Plastic packaging – reduce your plastic packaging as much as possible by choosing snack items that avoid the plastic.
  • Period Products – Choose the washable, compostable and toxic free options, they are better for the land and better for your health.
